The Importance of Soft Skills in the Workplace




HAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A.                Background 
High unemployment scholar is one of disease in country great .The statistics said the unemployment rate scholar or graduate of the university in February 2013 reached 360 thousand people , or 5,04 % of the unemployment rate at 7,17 million people
              1.      This could happen because most a graduate of a college just becomes job seekers ( job-seeker) and are rarely the want to be working creator ( job-creator ) .
                2.       These problems originated from college only more focused on how to whip up the students who quickly graduated with IPK rate cum laude without giving competence and skills to know and entering the workforce .Unemployment is generally scholar have skills low and not ready mentally to entering the workforce .
                3.    In addition to human resources ( students ) less quality , lack of the number of intensive work can absorb , so mend
                4.      Actual condition of people :
1.      Users labor often complained about a graduate of a college
2.       Graduation of Bachelor Degree from University haven't good Attitude
3.      Current Students only focus on the end value , not  search for knowledge 
4.      How big the role of learning psychology in the workplace
5.      The role of the science of psychology in engineering industry

DISCUSSION 

A.          WHY THE COLLOEGE GRADUATION NOT GET A JOB????????
There are any factors that causes the COLLEEGE GRADUATION NOT GET A JOB,
a.      Users labor often complained about a graduate of a college
How are not dismayed, if graduates who mostly printed has in fact
-  little tough
-  dishonest
-  fast bored
-  cannot work teamwork
-   until minimal communication skills spoken and
-  wrote the report well.
- No Different with the other ( No WOW )
In the workplace, comments about the quality of kind of scholars , smart anyway ,
 but you cannot cooperate with others  or  rooster make design , but unfortunately could not convince great idea that in others  , or new contract taken 1 years but it is back  easy to give up,  not rarely. Of course it could be an evaluation, not just for certain campus, but also the entire college in the country without exception .There is a tendency what was given in the college not fully one needs in labor .Most of the menu presented , may be said of skill hard ( hard skill ) .While , evidence show the best success was mostly skills are software ( soft skill )
Survey of national association of college and employee ( nace ), usa ( 2002 ), to 457 leader, about 20 essential quality a champion. The result is the ability to communicate, honesty / integrity, the ability to cooperate, interpersonal ability, ethical, motivation / initiative, the ability to adapt, the analytic, the computer, the ability to organize, oriented in detail, leadership, confidence, friendly, polite, wise, the achievement ( ip & gt; = 3,00 ), creative, humorist, and the ability entrepreneur
.IPK that often seen as evidence of superior students, discernible indicators successful people that the occupying a position almost distended, the number 17.Nomor-nomor in rank above, they often seems conditions in the advertisement. While,  the quality of like that serious needed.
b.      Graduation of Bachelor Degree from University haven't good Attitude
1.      Curriculum an undergraduate degree too emphasis on teaching academic. The end result create mentally scholar only looking for a job. They do not think of a way to create jobs own. Education  system in Indonesia too more academics is also became a problem
Actually an undergraduate degree not automatically clearing the way to work .The increasing number of unemployment intellectual in Indonesia is due to two factors .First , because competence student who less .Second , the number of jobs in Indonesia in general is not too much . a member of a council higher education , ' our society that is more need technician than academics .As a result what ?
Now is still many scholars unemployment , resulting from of this college is that does not conform of the need for people .The community is more need technicians , but college more produce academics , ' .He advocated was supposed to the community has human resources good , as students supported by technical expertise to improve the quality of human resources so that the being able to compete with other labor

2.      On the other side the unemployment was not want to rise up and make innovation; they just want to as workers a formal, in office and received a great salary.
                  c.       Current Students only focus on the end value , not  search for knowledge 
1.      Overqualified skills.
Most of the company was asking labor with the capability of being good, capable of adapting quickly, having value good  academic ( High IPK Score ).

So commonly student of university just focus on the Value of IPK
Actually Value of IPK not affect to activity when we do our job.
The surprise data shows the percentage, how many of them an undergraduate degree and idle was more higher than high school graduates or even junior ( as in of the total graduates scholar, a high percentage of unemployed be greater than senior high school graduates).

B.  HOW TO OVERCAME THE PROBLEM????
To overcame any problem on the workplace, There are 10 ways became success :
1.       lust.
Namely an element in intelligence emotional that is tips successful , which includes passion or enthusiasm smoldering .
2.      Second , intelligence quotient thinking ( IQ ) .The indicators computing power , analyze , design , insightful , well rounded , making a model , and critical .
3.      Third , communication skills in developing / excite themselves and develop others
4.      .Fourth , health and high energy , covering the ability keep stamina physical and health the organs of the body
5.      Fifth , intelligence spiritual .Intelligence is in the us is still in the higher order in support of success .Intelligence spiritual able to answer for what he lived , where are you going after living , and all targeted after this life is .He who has intelligence is will seek to as maximum as possible save and welfare people as much as possible , not actually make others suffer
6.      Sixth , creative and innovative
7.      Seventh , humble
8.      .Eighth , always very positive
9.      .The ninth , live in your family who harmonious; and the ten , focus and do what right .
10.  The ten indicators successful is that it represents a holistic intelligence that must be prepared .It seems that , the value of spirituality and a moral issue is not less important , who summarized into eight soft skills and two hard skills ( a number two and four ) .So , the requirements that must be fulfilled more element of the soft skills .

Things needs to be done is set vision the implementation of prime service national education to form Indonesian smart comprehensive. Indonesian smart comprehensive is intelligent spiritual , smart emotional , smart social , smart intellectual and smart kinesthetic 9 .Smart spiritual , having a meaning that students is expected to self through of sports hearts / hearts to grow and strengthen faith , being righteous and attitude noble including the manners of a sublime and personality superior .Smart emotional and social , smart emotional having a meaning that students capable of self through from a taste for increased sensitivity will subtlety and the beauty of art and culture , as well as having competence to express while smart social having a meaning that students have the ability adapted self  social way ( a ) develops and fertilize mutual relations; ( b ) democratic; ( c ) empathy

Now, we will focus to explain about soft Skill
The importance of skill in the life of the daily. According to him, humans will always be faced with problem life to be solved by using its facilities and situation that can be used. It means, skills needed (skill) someone wherever he was when toured life, good work or not work and whatever their. To break problem life were necessary various information and knowledge, but all it should be processed and be integrated into a scheme thought comprehensive, so they could be used to understand problem is, looking for alternative solving and creative, pick one most suitable, in accordance with the condition of a community and time, then implement alternative selected it is smart and obedient principle. ~

For increase soft skill Ability we need Psychology
How big the role of learning psychology in the workplace
1.      Definition
Psychology in a general sense is of science that studies about human behavior. Generally, often psychology called to the science of soul because correlate with the things psychological / psychiatric .Same as the sciences other , so psychology have some sub fields such as educational psychology , psychology clinical, social psychology, psychology development , psychology cross cultures , psychology industry & organization; an organization , psychology environment , psychology sports , and of child psychology & organization; young people .Of several sub this field psychology industry and organization  is an area special to focus on application the science of psychology for individual problems in companies that in particularly relevant to the use of human resources and behavior organization .

Engineering psychology is the science of human behavior and capability, applied to the design and operation of systems and technology. As an applied field of psychology and an interdisciplinary part of ergonomics, it aims to improve the relationships between people and machines by redesigning equipment, interactions, or the environment in which they take place. The work of an engineering psychologist is often described as making the relationship more "user-friendly."  

The Importance of Soft Skills in the Workplace

When it comes to skills in employment, the first line of emphasis is typically towards abilities, training and knowledge of specific skill sets. These are referred to as hard skills. Soft skills are often overlooked, but they also play an important role in day-to-day operations. Small business owners should place equal importance on hard and soft skills during the hiring process for new employees. In addition, current employees should be encouraged to develop soft skills if they are lacking in this area.

Ø  Drive/Work Ethic

This is a difficult skill to quantify, but employees will typically either display a strong work ethic and the drive to complete tasks, or they won't. While a work ethic is largely an innate skill, it can be learned with proper training and motivation. Some employees may be able to develop a stronger work ethic with incentive based pay or monetary rewards such as bonuses if they reach a certain goal.

Ø  Communication Skills

Communication skills are the most important soft skills for an employee. The ability to communicate through the spoken and written word is a necessity in nearly every industry and in every workplace. Communication skills can be learned and improved with the right training. It may take time for employees to learn effective communication skills, particularly if they have a naturally shy disposition. In this case, a course on public speaking can work wonders. The techniques learned by speaking to a large crowd can be adapted for daily communications and these lessons are typically good confidence builders for employees.

Ø  Teamwork

The ability to work well within a team is another important soft skill. Some employees may naturally feel comfortable working within a group, while others may have problems and prefer to work alone. It is necessary to spot these personality types ahead of time for proper group formation. Every team should have a diverse set of personalities that mesh together as a cohesive whole. Team building exercises can be very beneficial in helping employees develop this skill.

Ø  Decision Making and Problem Solving

Being able to make quick decisions, think on their feet, and solve simple problems are important employee traits. Even simple problems such as a copier being out of toner can grind an office to a halt if no one displays these simple skills. At least one employee needs to have the ability to take charge of a situation and guide the others through if they have difficulty. The employees who display these decision making skills are often excellent candidates for promotion to management level.

CONCLUSSION
College should not only had an obligation demanding his students to be able to pass swiftly with IPK cum laude but much more than that a student to be are provided with competence and skill to know and prepared to enter into the world of work .A college must also strengthen soft-skill besides hard-skill that has been obtained , because soft-skill is a thing that is necessary for success accepted and entering the workforce to be able to compete in entering work .A graduate of a college need to have the capacity of the competitiveness of , skills of them face the recruitment process for and selection working .With the skill of the recruitment process for face and selection working , individuals will have a clear understanding of the world of work .As well as the awareness to be entrepreneurs so that the graduates not passive and only to be job seekers but most of the state of being a a creator of jobs that can accommodate many workers .
